What is a Red Hat Individual Exam?

An Individual Exam is a single Red Hat certification exam bought for one named person, which that person schedules for themselves. You take it either as a remote exam from home or at a testing station in a Red Hat or partner facility. It is different from a classroom exam, where you enrol on a fixed date with a group and a live proctor.

Red Hat describes all four on its ways to test page. This guide covers the first two, which are the ones you book yourself.

Policies can change, so check the current Red Hat Training Policies before booking, and confirm whether your purchase includes a free retake.

How do you schedule a Red Hat exam?

You schedule it in Red Hat's exam scheduler, using the link and instructions Red Hat emails after purchase. The screens change from time to time, but the steps stay the same:

1. Find the purchase email. Red Hat sends instructions and a link to the exam scheduler to the email address on your Red Hat account. If you bought through a training partner, the partner may send the exam authorisation to you instead.
2. Log in with the right Red Hat account. Use the account the exam was assigned to. The same login is used on exam day, so save it somewhere safe.
3. Choose your exam. Select the exam code you bought, for example EX200 for RHCSA, and check the version shown.
4. Choose remote or testing centre. For a testing centre, pick the city and site. For a remote exam, you'll need a compatible computer and a live USB (see below).
5. Pick a date and time, and check the time zone. Make sure the slot shows in India Standard Time (or your local zone). Booking in the wrong time zone is one of the most common causes of missed exams.
6. Confirm and save the confirmation email. Check the date, time, exam code and delivery type in the email straight away.

Book early. Popular slots, especially evenings and weekends, can fill up weeks ahead, and Red Hat's own remote exam guide warns that the next available slot can be up to a month away.

How do you reschedule a Red Hat exam?

Log back in to the exam scheduler, open your booked exam, choose the reschedule option, and pick a new slot. You must do this at least 24 hours before your current start time.

1. Log in to the exam scheduler with the same Red Hat account.
2. Open your upcoming exam booking.
3. Select reschedule, choose a new date and time, and check the time zone again.
4. Confirm, and wait for the new confirmation email before closing the page.

You can also switch between a remote exam and a testing centre when you reschedule, as long as you do it 24 hours or more before the booked start. Within 24 hours, the system won't let you change it, and the attempt is forfeited if you don't sit it.

How do you cancel a Red Hat exam?

Cancelling a booking is done the same way: open the booked exam in the scheduler and choose cancel, at least 24 hours before the start time. This is where people get confused, so be clear on what it does:

• Cancelling the booking does not refund your money. Individual Exam fees are non-refundable.
• It frees your exam authorisation so you can book another slot later, as long as you still take the exam within one year of purchase.
• Cancelling within 24 hours is not possible, and missing the exam counts as a no-show.

If you have a genuine problem, such as an illness or a technical failure on exam day, contact Red Hat Training support (or the partner you bought from) as soon as possible and keep evidence. Don't assume an exception will be made.

Preparing for a remote exam after booking

Remote exams fail more often for technical reasons than for lack of knowledge. Do these checks well before exam day:

1. Create the live USB. Download Red Hat's remote exam ISO and write it to a USB drive of at least 8 GB.
2. Run the compatibility checks by booting from the USB: they test the live environment, network speed, microphone and webcam. Fix problems days in advance, not on the morning.
3. Prepare your room. Clear notes, whiteboards and extra devices. The proctor will ask for a full 360-degree view of the room, under the desk and behind the screen.
4. Keep valid photo ID ready. Use a government-issued photo ID that hasn't expired, with a name matching your Red Hat account.
5. Use a wired connection if you can, and tell others at home not to use heavy bandwidth during the exam.

• Booking in the wrong time zone, then missing the exam.
• Using a different Red Hat login from the one the exam was assigned to.
• Leaving it to the last few weeks of the one-year window, when there may be no slot left before expiry.
• Treating "cancel" as a refund. It isn't.
• Skipping the live USB test and finding hardware problems on exam day.
• Booking before you're ready. A free retake, if you have one, is a safety net, not a plan.
